Karlie Kendig’s passion for creating and her love for community are two of the driving forces behind her business Flood City Stitch. “I enjoy interacting with the community and have always created things with my hands,” she said. “I found my way into turning that into a full-time career that has brought me so much joy.”

I love owning my business here because I interact with customers online and in person at my store location. Getting to hear everyone’s stories as they shop for a special gift is part of why I love what I get to do.

Kendig said working with a Startup Alleghenies coach helped her get up and running. “Blake [Fleegle] has added such value to my business,” she said. “I was given guidance but able to make decisions on my own, explore opportunities, etc.”

“I’ve been able to come back to my coach for advice and as a sounding board for ideas I’ve had along the way. This is such an amazing resource for FREE,” she continued.

Kendig has deepened her relationship with Startup Alleghenies by becoming a merchant on the new Alleghenies Marketplace. “I am so excited to be a part of this online marketplace for locals,” she said. “I feel like this is a curated space of some really nice products from some really talented neighbors.”

Blake [Fleegle] has added such value to my business,” she said. “I was given guidance but able to make decisions on my own, explore opportunities, etc.

One of the standout items from Flood City Stitch is the crochet mushroom pillow. What makes it so great? Kendig’s mushroom pillows are truly one-of-a-kind. “Each is handcrafted with care and boasts a unique design adapted to be my own pattern,” she explained.

Kendig finds  inspiration in the Alleghenies’ natural beauty. “I love living here because of the nature and quiet surrounding us! I could never be a city girl,” she shared. “I love owning my business here because I interact with customers online and in person at my store location. Getting to hear everyone’s stories as they shop for a special gift is part of why I love what I get to do.”

Her storefront is at 828 Diamond Blvd, Suite 4, Johnstown, and her products are also available on the  Alleghenies Marketplace.
