Somerset’s Evolve Studio of the Arts offers a creative outlet for young dancers

 In Entrepreneurship, Somerset County

“I’ve been a dancer since I was 5 years old and always wanted a studio of my own. When the opportunity arose to purchase my childhood dance studio I took it,” said Amanda Shaffer, owner of Evolve Studio of the Arts in Somerset. “We have made some pretty big changes and had some big obstacles but here we are and it’s great!”

Amanda said a desire to provide opportunities for local children gave her the conviction to turn her dream into a reality. “The kids gave me the confidence to do it. Some of the students we have wouldn’t be dancing now if we were not here. I wanted to see them be able to enjoy dance and love it as much as I do.”

Business expertise provided by Somerset County’s Startup Alleghenies Coach Matt Reckner made a big impact on her journey. “He helped me think of things I would not have related to the business aspect. Knowing someone had my back when doing my business plan helped a lot,” Amanda said.

She offered this advice to other aspiring entrepreneurs: “Use the resources available in the Alleghenies! You’ll get great advice and help where you need it most!”

“There are so many wonderful and supportive people in this area,” she continued. “They come together when needed and are truly amazing.”
