Patience and persistence pay off for new bakery coming to Huntingdon

 In Huntingdon County

While the process hasn’t been without its challenges, Tammy Hinish is excited to share that she’s beginning renovations on a location that will be home to her Tastes of Home Bakery at 627 Washington Street in Huntingdon.

My business coach was such an asset to me when I began my journey. She knew all the steps that needed to be done when I knew nothing. She communicated with me and helped me through every process that she could. I learned a lot from her and am forever grateful for her help and support in the beginning stages of starting a business

“It will be a small bakery featuring homemade baked goods; pies, cupcakes, desserts of all kinds, and simple wedding cake options,” she said. Tammy also shared that she’s drawing inspiration and confidence from her family and friends: “My mother has inspired me my whole life. She always baked for my brothers and me for as long as I can remember. I have taken the knowledge I gained from her to bake and share desserts with my friends. My friends, along with my husband’s support, gave me the confidence to pursue opening a bakery,” she said.

Tammy worked with Huntingdon County’s coach Christa McGeary to get started. “My business coach was such an asset to me when I began my journey. She knew all the steps that needed to be done when I knew nothing. She communicated with me and helped me through every process that she could. I learned a lot from her and am forever grateful for her help and support in the beginning stages of starting a business,” she said.

There were some bumps in the road along the way, Tammy shared, but thanks to her patience and persistence, things are on track. “The biggest challenges for me have been location and funding. My process started with a bang and went full tilt until we hit a wall,” she explained. “We had several location changes but eventually ended up at the location we have now.  Then came the funding, which has been painstakingly slow at some points over the last few months, especially during the holidays,” she said.

But Tammy kept moving forward and didn’t give up. Her positive attitude is paying off. “I wanted to be further ahead than I am currently, but I have faith it will work out in the end. I have kept a positive outlook on the entire situation and that has helped me to overcome these challenges. Just show me there is progress and I am happy,” she said. “Communication is key.”
